Rivaldo was released by Olympiacos after a dispute with the chairman of the club, Sokratis Kokkalis, who decided that he was too old to continue with the club. Later that summer, he signed for Super League club AEK on 29 May 2007. His first Super League goal with the Athens club came through a penalty in their 3–0 win against Panionios. After the winning match against Olympiacos with 4–0, Rivaldo showed his four fingers to the camera.
